The Front Page

Quick update from my little writing cave: I’m writing two books right now—Cursed to Suffer and Deadly Mark—so I don’t have a ton of shiny news this week. It’s mostly me plugging away at scenes, juggling two sets of characters in my head, and feeling very accomplished when I get anything on the page.

Behind The Pages

Behind the scenes this week is a bit of a balancing act. I’m actively writing Cursed to Suffer, and at the same time I’m turning over some plot problems for Deadly Mark in the back of my mind. So most days look like this: I sit down and write Dane and Mac’s story, and then when I step away—making coffee, training Solo—my brain is quietly working on the other book like it’s chewing on a puzzle.

It’s actually a good mix for me because it keeps me moving forward without forcing anything. I can make real progress on Cursed to Suffer on the page, and I can let Deadly Mark take shape in a slower, steadier way until something clicks.

Half the time the solution shows up when

I’m not trying to force it, which is both convenient and slightly annoying.

What makes it tricky is keeping the tone straight. Cursed to Suffer is emotional and intense, but has a softer tone and it needs room for the relationship to breathe between the high-stakes moments. Deadly Mark has its own vibe and its own kind of tension. So I’m trying to be careful that I don’t let one book’s mood spill into the other. They can both be angsty, but they’re not the same kind of angsty, if that makes sense.

Anyway, that’s where I’m at this week: writing one book, thinking hard about the other, and feeling very grateful that my brain will sometimes solve problems while I’m doing something completely unrelated. In the shower is actually a great place to think. /KJ 💜

Off The Page

Here's a bit about what's happening with me outside of writing...

Just waiting for spring...

I walked away from my desk for a few minutes and Solo decided he'd help me out with some story ideas! He's now tall enough to get his upper body on my keyboard. It was a good thing I only had a chat program open, and not an email. 🤣

We've been in and out of a deep freeze, so with the ice and cold, going for walks has been a bit of a hit and miss, so Solo is chillin'.

He's 9 months old today.
